Once the plant is harvested, it begins to dry, and the acid gradually disappears.
CBDA has shown up to 50 times greater potential than CBD in some studies.
Thus, immediate CO₂ extraction post-harvest is crucial to preserving CBDA and ensuring its maximum effectiveness.
Why CO₂ Extraction Matters
CO₂ extraction is the gold standard, but some producers use cheaper alcohol extraction methods.
In alcohol extraction:
- Flowers are dipped in alcohol and cooked to evaporate it.
- This process degrades many beneficial compounds.
- The remaining extract undergoes wax and impurity removal in a long heating and filtering process.
While better than isolate, alcohol extraction still does not match CO₂ extraction in purity and effectiveness.
The Downside of CBD Isolate
CBD isolates—a sugar-like white powder—are a cheap and ineffective way to produce CBD oil.
- It allows companies to claim “30% CBD” on labels while offering minimal real benefits.
- Isolates contain only 1 of the 800 active compounds (CBD), missing the full spectrum of effects.
- Some tests may detect traces of other cannabinoids (below 0.03%), but the actual content is negligible.
